State Glossary Sheets

At Storylark Road, we believe in the power of storytelling to make learning fun and memorable. That’s why we’ve designed our Hello, United States! units to bring knowledge to life through story-based learning. One way we do this is by highlighting key words in the context of each exciting adventure through the state, helping your student connect with the material.

The glossary sheets are a quick and handy way to explore each word and definition as you read the story together. Each glossary sheet is a free download. If you haven't yet purchased one of our state units, you can download the accompanying free sample to see how the vocabulary words are highlighted and used in each state unit. Have fun making geography a subject your student will love!

About Us

Once upon a time, three co-workers-turned-friends pondered what it would be like to make boring subjects come alive on the page. They dreamed of a (not-so-quiet) neighborhood called Storylark Road inhabited by unique and amusing animal characters. Through their journeys and storytelling, these neighbors would immerse readers in delightful adventures that would make education fun and help learning stick. And so, Storylark Road was born!

GRAPHIC DESIGN / ILLUSTRATION

A lifelong devotee of the art of pixels and design, Shanna Behrens loves bringing learning to life visually. She knew from a young age that graphic design, layout, and art was her dream career. She discovered a passion for education while working for All About Learning Press, a reading and spelling homeschool company. Being an animal-lover at heart, the idea of immersing kids in story-based learning through the voices of fun animal characters made her jump for joy.

Samantha Johnson loved being homeschooled. In fact, she loved everything about it: reading, writing, history, research—basically everything except math (yuck). When she was 12, she won a prize in a kids’ writing contest and has never looked back. These days, Samantha still likes to research and write and she’s now the author of nearly twenty books published by Quarto, Scholastic, All About Learning Press, and other publishers. She lives on a farm and loves to garden.

That’s something to meow about!
