State Glossary Sheets
Once upon a time, two co-workers-turned-friends pondered what it would be like to make boring subjects come alive on the page. They dreamed of a (not-so-quiet) neighborhood called Storylark Road inhabited by unique and amusing animal characters. Through their journeys and storytelling, these neighbors would immerse readers in delightful adventures that would make education fun and help learning stick. And so, Storylark Road was born!
Meet Shanna
GRAPHIC DESIGN / ILLUSTRATION
Co-founder of Storylark Road
A lifelong devotee of the art of pixels and design, Shanna Behrens loves bringing learning to life visually. She knew from a young age that graphic design, layout, and art was her dream career. She discovered a passion for education while working for All About Learning Press, a reading and spelling homeschool company. Being an animal-lover at heart, the idea of immersing kids in story-based learning through the voices of fun animal characters made her jump for joy.
Favorite Pastime: Enjoying nature with her husband and two children
Favorite Scent: The smell of the air right before a rainstorm
Favorite Superpower to Have: The ability to talk to animals, of course!
Favorite Dessert: Peach Cobbler
Where to Find Shanna: Drawing the residents of Storylark Road and designing freebies, books, and activities
Meet Renée
WRITER / EDITOR
Co-founder of Storylark Road
A poet since the age of seven, Renée M. LaTulippe is now the author of poetry and books for kids and teens. After sixteen years as a writer and editor for All About Learning Press, she is thrilled to continue her educational writing with Storylark Road—especially since she gets to write in the voice of a cat … and a tortoise … and a walrus—well, of a whole menagerie of characters. That’s something to meow about!
Favorite Hobbies: Watercolor painting, theater, and clarinet
Favorite Quote: “I hate writing; I love having written.” (Dorothy Parker)
Favorite Writing Spot: Lounge chair on the veranda of her home by the Mediterranean Sea
Favorite Joke: Knock knock. Who’s there? Interrupting cow. Interrupting co—- MOO!
Where to Find Renée: Writing for Thaddeus’s travels in Hit the Road Geography and for other characters in freebies and unit studies.
Meet Cynthia
WRITER
Cynthia really loves books. She works in books (as a writer and editor), reads books, listens to books, sniffs books, buys books, studies books, and collects books. She doesn’t eat books, but she does devour them. When someone suggested she needed a hobby other than reading, she chose bookbinding. Her cat, Ginny, finally stepped in and wrote to Thaddeus for help. Now Cynthia helps him write his journal entries … which just happen to be published in the form of books!
Favorite Word: Shenanigans
Favorite Fun Fact: Sea otters hold hands while sleeping so they don’t drift apart.
Favorite Cake: Dobos torte, a Hungarian sponge cake layered with chocolate buttercream and topped with a crisp caramel layer.
Favorite Hobby: This might come as a surprise, but … reading.
Where to Find Cynthia: Writing many of Thaddeus’s shenanigans! And also near places with books. (She honestly has a bit of an obsession.)
Meet Zach
VOICE ACTOR
Growing up as somewhat of a character in his own right, Zach has always been drawn to doing voices and making people laugh. Born and residing in the Hoosier state of Indiana, he’s found a strong career in voice acting, and has a passion for telling stories. Playing Thaddeus is really all about keeping that curious wonder we had as kids, and for Zach, the character is a feline representation of that carefree spirit, and a reminder to never lose it!
Favorite Food: Cat food ... (kidding!). Mexican food, especially hot sauces!
Favorite Sport: Basketball (If you’re a Hoosier, you probably agree!)
Favorite Hobby: Getting out in nature away from the hustle and bustle.
Favorite Quote: "The best way to cheer yourself up is to try to cheer someone else up." – Mark Twain
Where to Find Zach: Voicing the loveable Thaddeus for the audiobook of Hit the Road Geography.
